Becoming debt free; preparing for a great retirement

Larry McLean, a marketing general agent contracted with Mutual Trust Financial Group, started the insurance agency, Your Family Bank, in 2010 after founding First Financial Education Centers—an agency specializing in the senior market—more than 27 years ago. "I was sitting at a Florida State football game looking at 80,000 fans and trying to think of a way that we could help everyone at the game," explains Larry. "That's when the Your Family Bank concept was born."

According to Larry, "Your Family Bank is all about helping people." The agency provides a plan for clients to not only become debt free in a relatively short period of time, but it also offers a method for them to prepare financially for a great retirement.

Situations to consider

When talking with people about the necessity of planning for their financial future, Larry points out three situations he's observed in the U.S. today. Larry believes

1. A major cause of divorce is financial stress.

2. Many people are working beyond their full retirement age, not because they want to work, but because they have to work.

3. Leaving a legacy is almost non-existent.

But Larry is quick to point out that people can change these trends for themselves, their children and for generations to come. "It all starts with a decision, one that every person has to make for him or herself," Larry says. "If I can give everyone just one piece of financial advice it is to talk to someone who has your best interest at heart," advises Larry. "People already hold the key to their financial freedom. An advisor's goal is to show them how to use that key."

If you haven't spoken with your insurance representative recently, now may be a good time to contact him or her and set up a meeting to review your financial plans.
